The key to a good day at Srirangam is fitting your plans around the temple's three daily closures.

About this plan. This is a planning template based on the official HR&CE normal-day schedule, not an account of a particular visit. Times for walking and travel are estimates, so leave slack. An official notice changes the darshan hours until 31 October 2026; check the current notice and adjust the times below.

Morning

  1. Before 6:00 AM Reach the temple, enter through the South Rajagopuram and leave footwear at the storage room by the Nanmukhan Gopuram.
  2. 6:00–7:15 AM The first darshan period. Join the queue early, as this period is short.
  3. 7:15–9:00 AM The temple is closed for darshan. Have breakfast in Srirangam.
  4. 9:00 AM–12:30 PM Darshan period. If you missed the early darshan, have darshan now. Then explore the fifth prakaram: the thousand-pillar mandapam, the Sesharayar Mandapam, the viewpoint near the Ranga Vilasa Mandapam, and the shrines of Ranganayaki Thayar and Ramanuja.

Midday

  1. 12:30–2:15 PM The temple is closed for darshan. Lunch and rest; stone floors get very hot in the middle of the day.

Afternoon

  1. 2:15 PM onwards Visit the Jambukeswarar Temple at Thiruvanaikaval, about 2 km away. Check its own timings before you go.
  2. Late afternoon Drive to the Rockfort in Tiruchirappalli and climb to the Ucchi Pillayar Temple.

Evening

  1. 7:00–9:00 PM The last darshan period at Srirangam. Arrive at least an hour before 9:00 PM, as the official portal advises.

If you have more time

Spend a second day on the Divya Desams around Tiruchirappalli, such as Uraiyur. See Srirangam and the 108 Divya Desams and the nearby temples list.

Practical notes

  • Dress modestly all day; see what to wear.
  • A cab or auto for the day is the simplest way to connect the stops.
  • Carry water and small change, and keep the official timings handy.
